The Inspiration for Act Early
My inspiration to write this book did not come from the heavens but from craigslist. Our family had suffered a huge financial crisis after years of balancing credit card debt arising from my son's therapy expenses, and craigslist seemed like an ideal place to find a weekend job.
What I found was an ad by an author whose backyard needed weeding. I clicked through. To qualify for wacking weeds, I had to submit an essay. Chosen gardeners would earn $10 an hour and get treated to lunch and the author's book-writing secrets. She cloaked her identity until she chose her gardeners.
I submitted an essay about discovering that my son had a disability, autism. I got the gig. And the author—Carole Fungaroli Sargent, author of Traditional Degrees for Nontraditional Students—followed through.
Ever since that day I've been writing Act Early Against Autism. I ocassionally blog about my writing experience at My First Book Debuts.
